Default Weimaraner problems

We are having major issues with our weim puppy..we got her when she was 12 weeks old and now she is almost 9months old. The problem is when she is left alone she goes NUTS!! She has ate a corner of the wall, scratch the kitchen table leg (thank goodness it was the leg) with her teeth, she has goten into my closet (while the door was closed) and chewed my shoes (she even got them out of the box)..She is usually good as long as our other dog is with her...but today I came home and she has gotten a way through the gate, went into the bedroom and peed on top of my bed. She also got tissue out of a shoe box and shredded it completely. She has also shredded a dog bed and you may ask why do I not crate her when gone...well she has ate through a metal crate...What can I do to make my poor baby not so axnxious when we are gone???

Default Re: Weimaraner problems

How much exercise does your Weimaraner get? They are hunting dogs so they need A LOT of exercise. I am guessing that he's not getting the right amount of exercise that is why he is taking your house and your stuff apart.

Another reason could be that your dog is suffering from separation anxiety. That's one of the Weimaraners problem. They often think of themselves as a member of the family or the "pack" so leaving them in the house makes them anxious and they become destructive. If this is the case, your dog needs behavior modification and a lot of training.

I too, had trouble with my female weimaraner when she was young. I also have a male, but didn't have trouble with him, they are now 4 yrs old. The key with her was exercise as much as possible (she can run and swim for hours) and when we are not home she is crated with a bone and a blanket. She loves her crate!! Also, they both go to doggie daycare 5 days a week and that helps to tire them out in addition to increasing their social skills. Good luck!
