Angry dog attacking

I live with my friend who has a blue heeler anyway the dog has shown no agression to me or my family when they visit but i normally take the dog in the car while i get outside the gate and he quiet happily runs back inside after quick car trip.
well today when i got out of the car to let him out he jumped out my door and ran across the road and tried to attack a old man who was delivering papers, luckily he didnt get to bite the man but he tried. is there anyway to fix this behavior ive never had a dog that aggressive when out of their yard.

Please help

I experienced something like that with my dog as well, on one of our walks a man walked out of a side path carrying a bike tire, my dog growled and lunged like I have never seen her do before, I think in cases like these, the animal is responding to something we maybe don't see, the paperman could of had a smell or something that your dog has had issues with in the past, i think the best thing would be an increased amount of controlled socialization so that your dog can become aquaintted with a variety of different situations and people.

Hey,

I would put him back on the leash for a while until you feel your dog is comfortable walking free around your house. If your dog starts barking/acting aggressively to anyone while on the leash, discipline him immediately.

Good Luck!
