Congratulations. What kind of pup, how old, pictures? It's like a new baby, we need DETAILS, LOL.
First, NEVER give it trouble for going in the house. It will do no good and only serve to make the pup scared of you and learn to hide it. If he goes in the house it's your mistake not his. It's no different than having a baby crawling around without a diaper. Until pups are housetrained, they should not have the run of the house. I strongly suggest you invest in a crate and train him to use it. There are a lot of articles on the web to show you how to do this. This can be a lifesaver for both of you. If that is not possible, confine him to one room in the house. Take him outside A LOT. After he wakes up, 30 mins after he eats/drinks, after vigorous play. Take him out the same door, to the same spot outside and tell him Go Potty, or Hurry Up, whatever you're comfortable with to tell him it's time to go, then praise him like he's just discovered a cure for cancer everytime he goes outside. Watch him carefully, if he starts to sniff the floor, or walks in circles, take him out. Make sure you clean any spot he's gone in the house with a neutralizing solution (you can get these at any pet store or department store). Training can be frustrating, some pups learn early, some not until 4 or 5 months. Invest in a lot of patience and vigilance and you'll do fine. Good luck.

Potty Training Guide
*You will have to put some effort into house training your puppy or dog. *You have to be consistent. *You have to be diligent. *Expect accidents. Give your puppy the right message Don't frighten the pup when you do this. It's a fact of life that your puppy has to pee and he has to poop so you don't want him to get the wrong message that peeing and pooping are wrong. You want him to get the message that peeing and pooping in the wrong place is not acceptable behavior and toileting in the 'allowed' area is acceptable behavior.

i would recommend bell training. i just responded to a similar post for potty training and i only recommend it because it worked for me. you can go to pretty much any store and purchase 2 or 4 bells in a resonable size and you can tie string through them(cheap training)make sure you tie 2 together per string, but you hang the bells from the door at a length that the pup can reach it. everytime you take him/her outside to potty have them tap the bell...you may have to do it at first atleast until they catch on and you reward them when they comply so they know that its what you want them to do. only reward if they follow through depending on how consistent you are it shouldn't take long for them to catch on and if other people are going to be handling the puppy its a good idea to have them do the exact same thing so he/she doesn't get confused with the training. be aware that when training if you have a puppy that enjoys being outside they might ring the bell just for that so its a good idea to place one set of bells at the front and the other at the back door. try to separate them by using the back door for using the potty and the front door for walks and play...trust me it will make your life a lot easier and you won't have to get up and nearly kill yourself for false alarms
i hope that this is helpful to you...good luck with the training |

I have 3 dogs and have found the use of a doggie door to be very very helpful. I know not everyone can use a doggie door, like apt dwellers, etc. I started right away to show my pup outside, at first to carry him, as he was not able to work the doggie door, or go down the full flight of deck stairs. But I showed him and encouraged him everyday how to do both. Now he freely goes in and out the doggie door, and up and down the stairs. He just has to know that he must go outside to do his duty. Yes he still has mistakes, but I have had him only 2 weeks. I think he is doing great. If I see him sniffing around, I bring him out, and tell him to go downstairs and go potty. And he usually does. I praise him a lot when he does his stuff outside. If he has an accident, and I catch him, I tell him to go potty outside, and put him outside immediately. If it is something I have missed, I just clean up the mess and move on with life. They will not know what they have done wrong once time has gone by. I also made sure to take him out right after drinking water, or eating, or every few hours. This way he knows to do his duty outside. Repetition is the key here. I hope this helps you.
