Unhappy new to this site mom of aussie Moose

Hi all,
I am a mom of a male red merle aussie. He is a wonderful dog, but...... isnt there always a but. I am afraid that he has picked up a bad habit. He is a biter. Not in a mean way, but He will not stop pulling on sleeves of shirts and if you turn your back to ignor him he bites your back. He is nine months old and I really need help getting him to stop. He has been to training and will sit on his bed when told to, will sit on Q and lay down. He will be as sweet as pie if we are out and running around town, but if you try to play with him he starts the arm biting. If you try to stop playing with him He starts the arm biting. He gets really worked up. I have been attaching a leash to him and teathering him until he calms, but is only calms him until he is releashed. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get him to stop?? Thanks

Wink Re: new to this site mom of aussie Moose

Hi Mom,
I"m also a new mom

we have a 5 month old blue merle and she does the nipping thing on the sleeves and knees - the best way we curbed some of this behavior was using an open palm hand with the command no - showing it at her nose

not hitting just showing her it's time to stop and behave -

maybe you could help me with getting her to settle down in the house - like you say ours is great in a strange house but it takes us hours to get her to just relax and lay down in our house - she seems to always want to be on the move - with her toys.

Thumbs up Re: new to this site mom of aussie Moose

Hello, I had the same problem before with my beagle Geoffrey. My advice is to give a loud verbal command right after he commits the offense so he will immediately associate his action with the punishment. It has to be a loud startling sound to make it clear that biting or nipping is a no-no. Dogs hate being ignored so after you issue the reprimand, you might also want to ignore him for the meantime to established that biting leads to sanctions.
