Question New member with question

Hi Everybody,

We just got a new puppy that is 9 wks. old.
It has been 15 yrs. since we had a new puppy.
We just had to have our 15 yr. old GWP put down because of seizures.
Our new pup is also a German Wired -Hair pointer.
Our question is about the new pup chewing every stick he can find when we are in the backyard. He is so happy chewing them he will not come when called.
Any suggestions on why he is doing this and how to make him stop?

Thanks for any help you can give!
LSSFJM

I don't think you are suppose to start formal obedience until about 4.5 months, until the adult teeth start coming in. I would just let him enjoy the sticks and be happy it isn't your deck / shoes / couch / socks / hands

Hi
Training can actually be started at 7 weeks what your pup learns between 7 and 14 weeks will shape his future. Start off with gentle training both my pups were sitting standing and doing recalls by 4 months but I made it fun for them not too formal.

I have a 3 1/2 month old pup and he is chewing everything. Remember they still have their baby teeth, and are teething. I agree to let him chew the sticks, it could be your shoes etc. When he is inside give him so chew toys so he doesn't start chewing those other items.

hi lssfjm, puppies chew because they are teething. agree with the others here that you are fortunate he loves to chew sticks rather than everything else in your house like furniture, shoes, books, etc. perhaps this link will help:
