I just moved into a small apartment with a balcony. I walk my dog many times a day to relieve herself. I wanted to put a planter on the balcony with sod so at night or early in the morning I won't have to walk her on the street. I can't seem to find a way to train her that it's ok to pee in the planter. I have used her urine and placed it on the sod. I use the pee command when she is on it... She doesn't seem to get what she is supposed to do. Is there some trick to get a dog to pee where you want them too?
Please help, I am totally frustrated! |

I suggest that you watch for signs on when your dog is going to pee. If you feel that he's about to go, bring him to your planter and tell him to "Go pee!" or something of that sort. Give your dog 2-3 minutes to understand your command. And then praise your dog when he pees.
Also try saying your command whenever your dog pees so that he'll associate the command with peeing. This will help him learn faster. If you just moved to the place your dog may still be getting used to your new apartment. Just be patient in training your dog and I'm sure he'll get used to it. ![]() |
