Default My dog seems to want to pee, but won't.

This is a confusing dog to me. He seems to be used to commands to relieve himself because when he goes outside, he just sits on our porch. Even early in the morning, after all night being crated, he still just sits there, waiting....for what? He loves walks, but doesn't seem to show an interest in relieving himself. It makes me nervous, especially when I need to put him in his crate. He has relieved himself in the cage, sometimes overnight, but when I take him to where he needs to go, he just stands there, looking expectantly at me. The only way I can get him to "go" is to put him outside for hours, and finally when he can't stand it any longer, he goes. This Jack Russell adopted us and we are considering keeping him because no one has come for him. We have had him for several weeks and I sure need help in having him overcome this obstacle. Otherwise, he is a super sweet guy! I am open to opinions!

You are so kind to provide shelter for him. Maybe, he had some experiences in the past about this thing, thus the reason for the behavior. All it requires is patience and good house training. For a start, if you see him behaving differently, (it will really require patience looking out at him for some time) and when he seems to like to go, just tell him and nudge him to go out in the same place over and over again till he gets it. Then don't forget the good pat whenever he does it correctly.
