Default Jumping on Guests

My recent rescue is a female Shar Pei approximately 2 years old. She was a wonderful, well-behaved dog until guests came over. She would jump all over them. I would move inbetween her and my guest but she would not submit. She would run away from me and continue jumping on them or eventually start jumping on me. She was relentless. I would hold her in the sit position until she calmed down but the moment I released her, she would do it again. My solution was to lock her up when guests came over.

I caught an episode of The Dog Whisperer a month later and found my answer. With smart, dominant breeds you're not supposed to force them to submit. They have to submit by choice. The simple answer was to walk toward her, calmly. No talking, stomping, etc. When she would move I would follow so I was always directly in front of her. It tooks less than 30 seconds. I passed this information on to my guests, even children, and it worked immediately. To date, she's never jumped on me or my guests again. She learned to be respectful and submissive.

I LOVE the dog whisperer! He works magic! Watching that show has helped me out too. He also has a website with really good info.

If anyone hasn't seen his show you should watch!

Hi!
Can you explain this further?? Do you look directly at the dog when you are infront of them, or do you turn your back??
Also, I heard that a dog should not look at you directly in the eye and yet, I was told a dog should hold your attention for you to be the dominent dog. Could someone explain??

Thanks

I hear about that dog whisperer but I'm not familiar with the show...I want to see the show, I'm getting curious...
