Default pet insurance

OK so not sure if this is the right thread or not, but I'm just wondering who out there has dog insurance. And if so, is it worth it? What's good about it and bad about it? Any recommended insurance firms? How much does it cost? Do certain breeds cost more than others? I'm wondering whether to get it for my Golden Retriever or not (six months old).

I have insurance for Muggs and it has saved me already and I've only had it 6mos. However, you really have to do your research and read ALL the fine print. It costs $65/mo and covers 80% of everything except regular check-ups, shots, etc. Of course, I have to pay first and submit the bill to get my money back. Whether it's worth it for you or not would depend on a lot of things - how old is your dog, what breed, do you let him run off leash, etc. As for costs, etc. it depends where you live. I believe there are only 3 companies in Canada, but quite a few in the States. Some charge more for certain breeds and some won't cover some breeds. If I had a larger income and was more disciplined, I would probably set up an acct. just for pet emergs. and sock money away in it. Again, it depends on your situation and your dog. My roommate had to take her dog to the college in Guelph for an endoscope that cost $2000. Luckily her insurance covered it but it had to be pre-approved. I can't stress enough, do your homework AND READ THE FINE PRINT.
