Eww, that's disgusting...
You should keep your eyes on your dog... Don't let him ate his own poop or even other poop... When my baby was at his 2 months old I always keep my eyes on him... When he poop I clean it immediately so that he can get to it...

Maybe it looks good for him that's why he ate it, like the color. Puppies are like very young toddlers. I remember my one year old baby, her stool was hard during those times, and I think I missed to pick one stool on the floor when I cleaned her up, and then I saw her picked something black that time. I was too late to react that she actually put it on her mouth. Disgusting! I can't forget how awful her face was, poor child! Luckily, she did get sick that time because of that.

This is really gross but yes, for some reason some dogs like to eat poop! It is called "Coprophagia" -- do google it for more info. Aside from obvious reasons that this is disgusting, we really need to avoid it for health reasons too as the poop may contain parasites. If your dog eats their own poop, try mixing small amounts of zucchini or pineapple in his or her food--your dog may not want to eat their poop anymore when you do this. also, best to clean up any poop in your yard right away just to avoid any temptations.
