Default adopted 6 month biting

My husband and I have adopted a 6 month old mini-schnauzer. Her family said she bullied their lab and she has little dog syndrome. I already have a mini that is 9yrs. Also a scottie that is 7yrs and a 8month Westie. When we got her home she runs and hides from them and when we try to get her she bites us. She also does this if you try and get her out of her kennel. She will also try and bite them if they try to get in her kennel. She is very skiddish. Help. Please tell me how to stop this. Thanks

Default Re: adopted 6 month biting

Small dog are usually cute and cuddly and owners tends to spoil them. It is often because of this that the dog sees himself as the leader of the pack and they become over protective whether of us, of themselves or of their territory.

Your dog biting you is because of the little dog syndrome. They really do not like to be touched.

You need to be assertive (not aggressive) and show your dog who's boss. Here's what I usually do: whenever I came home or whenever I want to greet my dog, I would sit on the sofa and had her come to me. I would pat my legs and she would jump up and put her front paws on my legs. This helped to show her that she could trust that I would catch her and I would pet her at my level instead of 'towering' over her. You can also ignore your dog whenever she starts biting or better yet, say "NO" and leave the room. This will make her realize that she will loose her playmates if she bites you.

Hope that helps.
