We are looking for advice to deal w/ our 8 month old black lab, female, who over the past 3 months has progressively become more and more aggressive and territorial. We received some advice from a pet store to show the puppy that we are in control and to hand feed her to teach her not to bite the hand that feeds her. She will growl and show teeth and even snap when we approach her while she is eating or drinking. We need help. We are mostly afraid she is going to bite our 3 year old daughter. The latest incident was when our 3 year old approach the puppy to say goodnight and the dog growled at her. Any suggestions?

This is classic resource guarding. It is not uncommon in the world of dogs. Obedience training will help with the relationships. Since this does involve an aggression issue you don't want to mess around with it. Contact a local dog trainer/behaviorist right away before something bad happens.

Be the alpha dog with your pet. Have them sit before you give your dog food. And train your dog to allow you or other member's of your household to come near them without growling or being aggressive.
