I came here looking for help but don't see much so far.
My wife and I breed mini dachshunds. The history of our clan is as follows: Blue is 6, recently spayed. She had three litters from which we kept one pup each, namely Pekko, Nana & Maichan. They are nearly 5, 4, & 3 respectively. Pekko has had two litters but we didn't keep any of her pups. Nana has had one litter and likewise, we didn't keep any of her pups. Maichan was spayed early due to an accident when she was a pup that may have interfered with her ability to carry pups to term. Blue's litter-mate, Bacon, was killed by a car when she was 5 months old. We bought a doxie-chihuahua pup (Chibi) for her companionship. Chibi was spayed early as we never intended to breed her. About 18 months ago, we purchased a mini doxie pup that is unrelated to our clan. Her name is Taleibo and she is tiny. She will be placed in our breeding program soon. About six months ago, we purchased male/female litter mates, again unrelated to the aforementioned clan. The male (Gonbe) and the female (Camo) will also be introduced to our breeding program about a year from now. About six months ago, Pekko began aggressive tendencies toward other dogs in the clan. She had always been aloof but the degree of her aggression is so vicious as to be considered frightening. Whenever I've witnessed such an attack, I've always interceded regardless of paying the price personally a couple of times. Pekko can inflict major damage in a very short time and the thing which is most bothersome to the observer is that she'll continue the attack well after the other dog has gone submissive. We've taken her to our Vet and he provided a medication that he has sometimes found helpful in these circumstances. The results started out well but despite medication adjustments, this method has become ineffective. We're now left with dismal choices: muzzle, separation from the clan or euthanasia, leaning toward the latter. Within the past couple of days, Maichan has expressed the same behavior and her victim was Taleibo. Taleibo was unable to walk for 24 hours and suffered puncture damage to one ear as well. Keep in mind that Pekko is an intact bitch while Maichan was spayed early on. They are sisters (same parents, different litters). Nana, another sister, is as calm a dog as you'll ever meet. While we do have facilities to separate the aggressive dogs from the clan, the clan lives with us while the separated dogs would be relegated to another building entirely. It is a sad time in our home as we see some very unfortunate ends coming to our beloved Pekko and Maichan. ![]() |
