Hey Everyone!
I have a 18 month old Great Dane who is starting to show serious signs of aggression towards people he doesn't know very well. I know this is normal in some respects but we took him to the vet (the same one he's been to tons of time since a 6 week puppy) and he went crazy. He would sit next to my husband and listen to commands from him but as soon as the vet-tech and vet would come toward him or even speak directly to him he would start growling and barking in a way I've never seen him act before. The vet called this "dominant aggression" and wants to neuter him in hopes that this will curb his aggression. Crockett (our Great Dane) has always been protective of our family and home but never aggressive when taken away from "his" territory. He is very sweet and my little kids can crawl all over him and stick their heads in his mouth and he wouldn't do them any harm. I'm really worried about him. Where did we go wrong in his training? He listens to my husband and I and most of our extended family very well. Why is he so aggressive and why does he refuse to listen to us out in public?? Any suggestions are welcome!! Becca |

Hello
I'm new to this sight and I've never had problems with aggression until now but I did have a dog that would just get too excited when we where out and not listen to us. We took him to an obedience class and that helped him alot as there were other dogs there and it was a structured class with a good trainer. just a thought, good luck! |
