Default Obession with moving cars

Hi...I'm new to the forum and looking for help to keep my Sheltie from being so aggressive toward moving cars. Ellie is 10 months old (we've had her from 8 weeks of age) and in the past 6 weeks, while on a lead and walking in the neighborhood, she goes crazy when a car goes by. I put her in a "sit/stay", but that doesn't work. I have to hold her fur and keep the lead short and tight. She is perfectly fine as long as there are no moving cars. Help...why did she suddenly start this behavior and what can I do to keep our walks fun? God forbid she ever got off the lead accidently. She is also freakish with the vacuum cleaner...any thoughts there? I've tried giving her treats next to the vacuum, while it is running....but she could care less about a treat. Thanks!

Wow, this is a very dangerous aggression. Your dog can seriously injure itself. Anyway, I think you should read the book "Sit Stay Fetch". I forgot who the author is but I got it as an online download and it really helped me a lot in dealing with my dog's aggressive behavior. It also comes with bonuses so you will really get your money's worth. I forgot who wrote it Anyway, I think this info will help being the alpha dog is the base of all obedience training and your dog is more likely to listen to you once it knows you are the pack leader. My dog had a nasty habit of chasing kids on skateboards before but we were able to overcome it, it took weeks though, but its worth it.

Thanks so much for the information on the book. I will buy it TODAY!!!!
This will probably help in learning to respect our cat, too.

Unhappy Re: Obession with moving cars

I'm having the same issue with my border collie. She used to be a wonderful jogging buddy, then all of a sudden one day she started pulling at every car that drives by. Since I live in the city, it's impossible to avoid, and now I don't want to take her for walks because it's getting so bad.
Does anyone have a successful story on how they defeated this bad habit??
