Cool Jack Russell Terrier / wannabe rottweiler!!

Hi,
I've recently rescued an 8yr old male JRT from a rescue kennels. He has been neutered and apart from one small behaviour problem, he is becomming very responsive to my lead, learning that in my house, and when I am about, I am in charge, not him. There is however one small problem I need some advice with. Yes you've guessed it, he wants to atack any other dog within a twenty foot radious!! Now as he was rescued from a kennels, sometimes the other dogs fuel his rages further as they too are agressive. I have checked him and he seemed to respond, but I realy need advice. the kennel have had him on a harness lead, which I dont think is helping, should I put him on a check each ime I visit to excercise him? I will be taking him home soon, but I'd like to take advantage of the time I have with him before we go home. Other than that i have an awesome well trained dog who is beginning to learn that he's not the boss any more.
If anyone can help that would be great.

Not sure if my answer will help you or not.
Not so long ago we rescued a Jack Russell female dog who had then a biting problem. After training, gaining trust, getting her fixed etc she calmed down....but ....like yours I don't trust her much when we're out and about.

I bought 2 things for her that fix the problems quite well. One of them is called "halt". Its basically a device you put around the neck and around the nose and she can't pull anymore at the leach. It doesn't do a thing as long as she behaves well. But soon as she pulls, she pulls her head automatically towards her breast. And it works as charm. It stops her pulling AND aggression same time. When dogs get nasty they pull also. Breaking through that stops the aggression. Added plus is that you do have also in situations like that control over your dog.

The second device I bought for her is a muzzle. Because I can't trust her in certain situations, she gets the muzzle on and done.
