I don't get what you mean by properly trained at the age of 6 months. Dog training does not end. It is a lifetime thing. Just because a dog knows how to sit, stay, heel, etc. does not mean he is going to know what is expected behaviour when a child tries to steal the food out of his mouth. Question for you, can you take food out of your dogs mouth ?? Have you even tried?
If not then the dog has no idea that what they did was improper behaviour.
Some of my dogs I will not have them any where near kids when they are eating. They eat in their crates this way they don't feel the need to guard thier food. How old is the child ? Is this a child that would understand rules about not taking food out of the dogs mouth ? If not then snacks and food may have to be given to the dog in a crate or somewhere out of reach of the child.

I think the action of taking the food out of your dogs mouth trigger the dog to bit your son...Maybe the dog misunderstood your son action...

First of all I hope your child is ok.
Unfortunatly your son had to learn the hard way on not to take any food/treat out of a dogs mouth. I'm constantly surrounded by loving dogs and some of them do get a little angry if I put my hands near their food while they are eating. I just let them finish before going near the food bowl.
