Default Timid Staffy....HELP

Hi There,
My Staffy, Jack, is 7 years old and has been with my wife and I for 6 years now. We rescued him from cruel owners with kids who mis-treated him on a regular basis when he was only 1 year old.
He is now part of our family

We now have a new addition to our family.... an 8 month old little boy Jacob.
Jack (staffy) is very timid and on edge around Jacob. We have seen this sought of behavior over the past years before when jack is around younger kids.
I have always been on his tail and put him in his place straight away when he acts like this and he knows its wrong.

Is this uneasy feeling he has around kids due to his neglecting past ???

I want him and our son to get along, its been 8 months now, my sons moving quicker along the ground and jack's running away faster and faster.
Please help before the unthinkable happens between them.

Cheers
Adam3000

hi i think it goes with out saying never leave you staffy alone with your child, what do you mean when you say he's on edge around him? we own two staffordshire bull terrier's they great around my 4 & 2 year old, i would be on edge my self if i was you because you have not seen you dog grow from a pup you dont know the sign's he may show before attacking i'm not saying he will your dog has a troubled past he will just need extra attention, personally i think all staffys can be a little timid i've owned my 2 since 7 weeks old and they have never been mistreated but they can come across alittle timid more so around raised voice's alot of people i know who have staffys say this, plus they can sulk for england, just give him time monitor them carefully together, but to be blunt if you really dont trust him keep him away from the child 100% you dont want to take any chances, i've always said if mine ever show any signs of agression towards human's i will have to consider re homing them as much as it would break my heart, my family come 1st, if you dont mind send me a picture of him to allanmichealsmith@hotmail.co.uk or 07704049308 good luck i'm sure everything will be fine.
