Unhappy Chihuahua, running away

Hi everyone,

I need advise on how to prevent my chihuahua Mario from running away everytime he gets lose and runs outside. Recently he jumped off a deck 6 feet high, most of the time we have to get in the car and go look for him. When we are in the house and I call his name he comes right to me with no problems, he's so little that he slips right through your hands or under your feet. And when he gets outside and you call his name he just keeps running, until you trap him. I need some type of advise as to how to keep him from running away, if he would just learn how to stay in the yard instead of ending up three streets over, I would be happy. I just can not figure out why he runs.
